K&L Gates Newark Partner Chosen as 2020 Leadership Council on Legal Diversity Fellow
Newark - Global law firm K&L Gates LLP has named Newark litigation partner Loly Garcia Tor as its 2020 representative to the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity (LCLD) Fellows program.
Launched in 2011, the program works to identify, train, and advance the next generation of high-potential attorneys from diverse backgrounds in order to foster diversity at the leadership levels of law firms and corporate legal departments, and has trained more than 1,600 mid-career lawyers since its inception.
“It’s an honor to be selected, and I’m excited to be a part of the new class of LCLD Fellows,” said Tor.
Tor focuses her practice on complex civil litigation, arbitration, and appellate practice throughout the United States, primarily in the areas of product liability, consumer protection, and construction litigation. She represents clients across several industries, including manufacturers and retailers of consumer and building products, pharmaceutical drug companies, real estate developers, and general contractors. Tor also has experience defending class actions related to allegations of consumer fraud, allegedly defective consumer and building products, allegedly deceptive product labels, and personal injury. She is a member of K&L Gates’ global diversity committee and actively participates in the firm’s pro bono program and, in particular, with Kids in Need of Defense, representing unaccompanied immigrant and refugee children in immigration proceedings.
Anthony P. La Rocco, managing partner of K&L Gates’ Newark office, commented: “Throughout her legal career, Loly has demonstrated a strong commitment to promoting diversity in the legal profession. We are thrilled to have Loly represent K&L Gates in the distinguished LCLD Fellows program.”
Pallavi Wahi, K&L Gates’ co-managing partner, United States, and chairwoman of the firm’s diversity committee, stated: “The LCLD Fellows program is a distinct leadership proving ground that provides participants unparalleled experiences benefiting both the individual lawyers and their firms. With several former LCLD Fellows now serving in various leadership roles for our firm and elsewhere — including, for example, two as current K&L Gates office managing partners and a third as a past national bar association president — K&L Gates greatly values the training and mentorship that LCLD provides current and future leaders here at our firm and throughout the legal profession.”
Founded in 2009, LCLD is made up of more than 300 corporate chief legal officers and law firm managing partners committed to creating a more diverse and inclusive legal profession. It is one of numerous diversity-related programs in which K&L Gates serves as a sponsor or participant, along with others such as Diversity Council Australia, Equality Campaign Australia, the Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA), the Minority Corporate Counsel Association, the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (NAPABA), the National Association of Women Lawyers (NAWL), the National Bar Association, the National LGBT Bar Association, and the Stonewall (UK) Global Diversity Champions Program.
K&L Gates is a fully integrated global law firm with lawyers located across five continents. The firm represents leading multinational corporations, growth and middle-market companies, capital markets participants and entrepreneurs in every major industry group as well as public sector entities, educational institutions, philanthropic organizations and individuals.
