Hugh Bangasser concentrates on antitrust and complex corporate litigation, including multi-district and international antitrust and consumer class actions, and advises public and private sector clients on corporate and litigation issues related to antitrust, consumer trade regulation disputes, intellectual property and corporate governance and securities matters. He has litigated numerous antitrust, trade regulation and technology cases in both domestic and international commerce, and represents clients in grand jury proceedings, criminal litigation and civil investigations by federal and state government enforcement agencies.
In addition, Hugh has five years experience as a senior trial attorney for the Federal Trade Commission Bureau of Competition, where he investigated antitrust violations, negotiated consent settlements, and tried and appealed complaints. He is a former chairperson of the Consumer Protection, Antitrust and Unfair Business Practices Section of the Washington State Bar Association and has provided antitrust counsel to the Washington State Bar Association.
Hugh teaches a comparative law course on antitrust and intellectual policy issues at the University of Washington School of Law. He also has written articles and given numerous presentations to legal and other professional groups on antitrust, RICO, franchise and trade regulation issues, as well as on the legal issues surrounding the commercial development and marketing of computer goods and services. He is the co-author of a chapter ("Procedural Aspects of International Civil Litigation") in Raish & Shaffer, eds., Introduction to Transnational Legal Transactions (Oceana Publications, 1995), co-author of a chapter on the consumer protection aspects of the Washington Consumer Protection Act, and co-author of a chapter on the Washington antitrust laws published by the American Bar Association. In addition, Hugh is an arbitrator on the Large and Complex Case Panel and Commercial Arbitration Panel of the American Arbitration Association and has served as an arbitrator in numerous complex business disputes.
