Codes of Conduct: Building a Trustworthy Framework for International Data Transfers Post Schrems II
Since the recent “Schrems II” ruling of the European Court of Justice, invalidating Privacy Shield and imposing additional obligations on organizations relying on the EU Commission’s standard contractual clauses, many organizations on both sides of the pond are facing legal uncertainties related to third-country transfers of personal data. One alternative transfer mechanism – newly introduced by the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and often overlooked – are Codes of Conduct.
SCOPE Europe is on the frontline of this new form of co-regulation and currently in the process of approval of its EU Cloud CoC before the EDPB. The firm cooperates with SCOPE Europe as Supporting Member of its Code of Conduct for personal data transfers to third countries by sharing our extensive knowledge in international data transfers and market experience.
In a joint effort by the firm and SCOPE Europe, this webinar will explore the benefits and potentials of Codes of Conduct in general and specifically seeks to address legal uncertainties after Schrems II.
Topics to be discussed:
- Introduction to the EU Cloud CoC and the Third Country Transfer Initiative
- Codes of conduct as fitting tool to address third country transfer related issues after Schrems II – both as standalone and as complementing measure
Registration is free and available for all. Participation is limited to 250 entries.
