Congressional Meet and Greet with Representative Teresa Leger Fernandez
Representative Teresa Leger Fernandez was elected in November 2020 to represent New Mexico’s 3rd Congressional District, which spans the northern half of the state, including the state’s capital, Santa Fe. The district encompasses most of the New Mexican portion of the Navajo Nation and Puebloan reservations.
Representative Leger Fernandez is a 17th generation Northern New Mexican. Born to Manuelita de Atocha (Mela) Luceroa, a bilingual educator, and former state Senator Ray Leger in Las Vegas, New Mexico, Representative Leger Fernandez graduated from West Las Vegas High School before earning a Bachelor of Arts degree at Yale University and a Juris Doctor from Stanford Law School
After graduating with distinction, Representative Leger Fernandez returned to her roots in New Mexico where she advocated for immigration, water, voting rights, and both Indigenous and Hispanic communities as an attorney. She also became a White House Fellow for the Clinton Administration and would go on to serve on the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation for the Obama Administration before running for office.
